This year the first day of school looks a little different then the years before in our house as well as so many homes across the world. COVID has completely changed the world over the last 6 months. Family gatherings are done through phones and computers. Weddings are postponed or downsized drastically. Giving birth is now even more scary with the looming possibilities of having to do it alone due to new regulations. Even school now is different.

Today my house lacked excitement and hustle to get my boys ready, pictures taken and out the door for drop off. I don't get to walk my boys to their classrooms and meet their teachers and snap a quick picture. I don't get the see Blaise been with pride as he walks into a big kid school for the first time. I'm not anxiously waiting for pick up to hear all about my kid's days and what they did, how they liked their teachers and how many new friends they made.

This year is Blaise's first year of real or "big kid" school as he calls it. I am supposed to be driving home with tears running down my face after dropping him off at school because another one of my babies becomes a big kid. He's supposed to be exploring his independence outside the home. He is supposed to be making new friends in his class room. He is supposed to be learning from a sweet and patient teacher not from mom and a tablet.
I know I am not the only parent going though this during this time. We're stressed and frustrated with virtual learning. Our teachers and other school staff are stressed with all of the rules and regulations put on them. This school year has a lot of unknowns and everyone is uneasy. At this point we are all having to be flexible and willing to adjust then readjust some more. This school year is different but we can still do our best to make it as great as all the ones in the past.
